Dismissing critiques about her weight, Ben Falcone says he’s a “lucky fella” to have Melissa McCarthy as his wife

Melissa McCarthy, the exceptionally talented actor, is far more captivating than any discussion about her weight.

McCarthy is a comedic virtuoso brimming with talent, having not only starred but also produced and written for numerous Hollywood blockbusters.

She and her dedicated actor husband, Ben Falcone, whom she’s been happily married to since 2005, constitute an extraordinarily gifted duo and one of Hollywood’s most endearing and humorous couples.

Falcone, at the age of 49, consistently expresses his love and admiration for McCarthy, emphasizing her beauty.

In 2021, Falcone shared a photo of the two on his Instagram account along with the message, “This picture was taken at a friend’s wedding about 14 years ago. We had a blast. It was a fun wedding, but Melissa makes everything enjoyable just by being herself. I’m incredibly fortunate to be married to someone who’s so intelligent, kind, stunning, and outrageously funny. Happy birthday Mooch, love you!”

In addition to their film production company, On the Day Productions, where they have produced films like “Tammy” (2014), “The Boss” (2016), “Happytime Murders” (2018), and “Life of the Party,” the couple also shared the screen in “Bridesmaids” (2011). Most recently, they appeared together in Falcone’s post-apocalyptic comedy series “God’s Favorite Idiot” (2022), which aired on Netflix.

McCarthy, who ranked fourth on Forbes’ 2023 list of highest-paid actresses, is renowned for her roles in TV series like “Mike and Molly” and “The Gilmore Girls” (2000–2007, 2010-2016). She has also made notable appearances in films such as “The Heat” (2013), “The Spy” (2015), “Ghostbusters” (2016), and “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”—a performance that earned her an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of a struggling writer who forged letters from deceased authors. In 2023, McCarthy is set to showcase her musical talent as Ursula, the villainous sea witch in Disney’s live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid.”

McCarthy, now aged 52, has garnered numerous accolades. In 2016, Time recognized her as one of the 100 most influential people globally, and in 2020, The New York Times ranked her as the 22nd greatest actor of the twenty-first century.

The unconventional flair of McCarthy and Falcone’s Hollywood relationship lends a delightful charm to their humor. They made a memorable appearance at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party in 2019, both donning matching Adidas tracksuits and sneakers. McCarthy admitted that their choice garnered mixed reactions, saying, “I’m sure it threw everybody into a tizzy because the idea came to me the day before the Oscars.”

Playfully addressing her fashion choices, she quipped to Entertainment Tonight, “To me, it’s not (less glamorous), guys. I’ve doubled my diamonds—I feel great.”

One lesser-known fact is that McCarthy is the cousin of Jenny McCarthy, an actress, model, and TV personality. In 2013, Jenny defended Melissa after film critic Rex Reed criticized her in a review of “Identity Thief,” referring to her as a “tractor-sized Melissa McCarthy” and a “gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success.” Jenny told E! News, “That’s obnoxious in itself. For anyone to attack like that, it’s just wrong and hurtful, and it doesn’t do anyone any good…” She added, “She’s very, very talented, and people know that, so… He can go to hell.”

Recognized for her acting prowess, McCarthy gracefully disregards judgments concerning her fluctuating weight.

In 2016, McCarthy discussed her weight changes in an interview with Refinery29 in relation to her role in “The Boss,” a script she co-wrote with Falcone, who also directed the film. She stated, “I have, but I’ll be back again. I’ll be up, I’ll be down, probably for the rest of my life. The thing is, if that is the most interesting thing about me, I need to go have a lavender farm in Minnesota and give this up.”

She went on to say, “There has to be something more. There are so many more intriguing aspects about women than their appearance or their physique. It can’t be the first question every time, or a question at all… Can you imagine them asking some of these male colleagues I work with, ‘How do you maintain your physique?'”

Actress Melissa McCarthy was captured on the set of “Can You Ever Forgive Me” on January 23, 2017, in New York City, as shown in a photograph by Raymond Hall/GC Images.

Regarding stereotypes, she expressed, “I want to eliminate the constant categorization. Lists provide a means to pigeonhole and diminish women. The portrayal of women we are always expected to conform to represents only a tiny fraction—0.000009%—of human beings. That’s absurd.”

In response to her fashion struggles, McCarthy established Melissa McCarthy Seven7 to share her remarkable style with others. Although reports suggest she ceased production of her clothing line, which catered to sizes four to 28, her stylish looks can still be found on websites that sell secondhand items.

Despite facing criticism, Falcone continues to express affectionate sentiments about McCarthy, the mother of their two children. He once declared, “I tell her ‘I love you every day’… but today, I truly do love you,” alongside one of his Instagram photos, and it was heartfelt.

Melissa has openly discussed her likelihood of experiencing fluctuations in weight. She firmly believes that one’s weight shouldn’t be the “most interesting” aspect of her or anyone else. “There has to be something more,” she asserts, “There are so many more captivating aspects about women than their physical attributes.”

I couldn’t agree more, she’s totally right!
