A Compassionate Puppy Befriends a Solitary Widow

Sally, at 93 years old and a widow since 1990, has spent the past 15 years living next to Dave Mazarella in Mount Vernon, Washington. While she’s known all of his dogs over the years, there’s something special about her connection with Brody, a one-year-old Saint Bernard. Brody, who boasts a popular Instagram account, has become a cherished companion for Sally, visiting her home multiple times a day.

“He was here already this morning, he came over with Dave,” Sally enthusiastically shared. “He’s such a sweetheart! I even gave him a slice of toast for breakfast.” Their bond has transformed their routines, as they now attend church together, watch the news, and start their days by picking up the newspaper.

Mazarella mentioned how Brody’s visits started with a few casual trips to Sally’s home, where she offered him snacks. From there, their friendship blossomed. Dave believes that it’s Sally’s voice that particularly captures Brody’s affection. Sally’s history with animals, developed during her childhood on a farm in Holland, has likely played a role in their heartwarming connection.

Despite only one of Sally’s four children living nearby, she keeps close contact with them all. They, like the rest of us, enjoy witnessing the heartwarming bond between Sally and Brody. Sally’s positive outlook on life and her ability to bounce back from setbacks may contribute to her long and fulfilling life.

Their unique and endearing relationship reminds us of the simple joys in life, proving that even unexpected friendships can bring immense happiness.
