Approximately one in five couples will encounter challenges with conceiving, leading to a distressing and trying period in their lives. However, as many have attested, patience and unwavering determination can yield positive results.
Desiree and Ryan Fortin, college sweethearts married since 2009, embarked on a heartfelt journey to parenthood, characterized by their unwavering patience and enduring faith. Their struggle began when Desiree was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome, hypothyroidism, and low progesterone, setting the stage for a three-year battle with infertility. Countless negative pregnancy tests, shots, bruises, and a multitude of medications marked their challenging path to parenthood, taking a toll on them physically, emotionally, and mentally.
The couple’s quest for a family led them to in-vitro fertilization (IVF) as their last resort, and they fervently prayed for its success. The moment of triumph finally arrived, as Desiree received the long-awaited news of her pregnancy following the IVF treatment. Yet, the surprises did not end there.
An ultrasound revealed not one but three babies growing within Desiree’s womb. Their dream of having a family was multiplied, as they discovered they were expecting triplets.
However, their journey was far from over, as doctors cautioned Desiree about the challenges of carrying all three babies to term due to her stature and her first pregnancy. Despite the odds stacked against them, their hope persevered.
In the summer of 2015, Desiree gave birth to their triplets – Sawyer, Jack, and Charlize – via C-section at 34 weeks and one day. Each baby weighed over 5 pounds at birth, filling their parents with overwhelming joy.
While the Fortin family’s story included unexpected twists, such as complications requiring emergency surgery for Desiree, they were united in the face of adversity. After two weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit, the triplets were finally able to come home and begin their journey together.
Adapting to life with three babies presented numerous challenges for Ryan and Desiree, including the demands of caring for infants with severe reflux and colic. Amidst the sleepless nights and a new routine, they navigated the complexities of parenting while nurturing their relationship.
Today, the triplets are seven years old, and the Fortin family thrives together. Their inspiring journey has touched the hearts of many, as evidenced by Desiree’s Instagram account with over 150,000 followers.
Desiree reflects on their remarkable journey, expressing gratitude for the unexpected impact their story has had on others. In a heartwarming revelation, she shares that she and Ryan are expecting once again, extending their beautiful family to six members.
